Over and over and over again

I was looking for to a nice long read as I started this book. The first story was not bad, if you could get past the myriad of typos and word misuse. Also the vocabulary was barely on a middle school level. (Graphic subject matter not included). Then I started the second story. Hmmm three to one, that's a little different. But that's about all that was. The Sex scenes were basically the same, with one additional player. Some of the descriptions were almost word for word. And how weird is it for a character speaking in the first person to use phrases like "my big blue eyes" of "my firm, plump breasts with their hard nipples"? By the time I got to the third story I was just skipping thru looking for unique plot or story lines and went right past the Sex reruns. I guess, if you don't mind poor editing, and you want a brain vacation, reading anyone of these stories would be a great idea. I just wouldn't recommend reading them all at once. And if you want to read more then one, read the third story first, then the first story, since it's chronically the next set of events.

I have no idea how some books get so many stars. Are we reading the same book? First, this contains four stories - all exactly the same - just change the names and locations. The book was not editied. And if it was, get your money back, Ms. Faye. Just awful.

Heat without the skill

Honestly, from romance scenes that are almost literally copy pasted from book to book, down to the consistent typos. I like the idea, and the concept is hot, but these lack an editor and separate creativity. The characters are underdeveloped, the sex is cheap, and honestly, it's just not realistic or thorough

About the Author
Alison Booth is Associate Professor of English at the University of Virginia. Her research interests focus on Victorian literature and feminist theory and criticism, and her teaching at Virginia has ranged from "The Nineteenth-Century British novel" to "Utopias and Science Fiction." She is the author of Greatness Engendered: George Eliot and Virginia Woolf and editor of Famous Last Words: Changes in Gender and Narrative Closure.

J. Paul Hunter is Barbara E. and Richard J. Franke Professor Emeritus at the University of Chicago. He is the author of The Reluctant Pilgrim: Defoe’s Emblematic Method and Quest for Form in Robinson Crusoe; Occasional Form: Henry Fielding and the Chains of Circumstance; and Before Novels: The Cultural Contexts of Eighteenth-Century English Fiction. He is author of the first nine editions of The Norton Introduction to Poetry and the long-time co-editor of The Norton Introduction to Literature and New Worlds of Literature.

Kelly J. Mays has taught writing and literature courses for 25 years ― at Stanford University (where she earned her Ph.D.), in the Harvard Expository Writing Program, at New Mexico State University, and (since 2001) at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, where she is now an Associate Professor of English.  A British literature specialist whose work has appeared in Victorian Studies, Victorian Poetry, Critical Inquiry, and other major scholarly journals, she is currently at work on a book exploring when and why nineteenth-century Britons began to label their age, their literature, and even themselves "Victorian."

Wonderful!

I bought this book as a text for my "Introduction to Poetry" class this semester. Being a poetry nerd, I expected that I would enjoy the class, but I am even more head-over-heels than I would have expected!! This book is wonderfully laid out and includes hundreds of treasured poems. I especially like the organization; rather than having the poetry in chronological order, the editor put the poems in chapters according to different aspects of poetry (i.e. tone, speaker, meter, etc.), which may put everything from Anne Bradstreet to Sylvia Plath in a single chapter.

I'm in love. I read this book on my days off, simply for the joy of reading wonderful poetry. Whether you choose to buy this as a textbook or simply to read for fun, this is an anthology you can't pass up. I hope to use this in my future teaching career.

Excellent survey of artists and forms

This is a nice way to settle back in with poetry if you have been away from it for a while. Hunter gives us a collection of outstanding writings from the western tradition. There is enough about form and structure to add to our appreciation of the artists' work without distracting from the meaning and emotion.
There are a few chapters at the end that are very "textbookish" but they are brief and do not invade too much on the worth of the volume as a collection for people who do not plan to write "about poetry".

Poetry from every angle: great selections, great commentary

When a friend gave me the Third Edition of this fine book some years ago, I couldn't have guessed how much pleasure I would get out of it. I now keep a copy in my office at work. At spare moments I pick a poem at random. I often find myself reading the poems around it, and the editor's commentary as well. Just reading the section introductions sucks you into reading all the poems in a section. This is the best collection for instilling or maintaining a love of poetry--I'm giving my doughter a copy today.

About the Author
Johann Sebastian Bach was the first great musician to disregard the rules of harmony and rhythm that were strictly followed by other composers. This fact alone helped to make him the forerunner of musical composition as we know it today. Born the son of a violinist in Eisenach, Germany, in 1685, he received his first musical training on the violin. At the age of 10, he went to live in the home of his brother Christoph, who taught Johann to play the harpsichord and the organ. It was also at this time that Bach began school, where his boy-soprano voice was greatly admired and appreciated. When his voice changed, Bach concentrated on the violin; but the organ soon took his interest, and he decided to devote himself to church music. At the age of 18, Bach became the organist at Arnstadt and began his work in musical composition. After a short period of time, he moved to Muhlhausen where he married his cousin, Maria Bach. At Muhlhausen he began to experiment with changes in the music used in the church services of the German Protestant Church. It was also during this time that he began to become somewhat well known. It was this that gained for him the position as court organist and violinist to the duke at Weimar, where he remained for about nine years. During this nine-year period, he wrote many cantatas for the Church, suites for the clavichord and harpsichord, and fugues (musical compositions in which the first melody is continually repeated and imitated throughout the entire piece). In fact, because he wrote so many fugues for the organ and piano, he is often called "the Great Master of the Fugue." His next position at Köthen was during the period in which he produced much of his orchestral music and music for the clavichord and harpsichord. In 1720 his wife died; and a year later he married Anna Wulken, who was also a musician. She evidently helped him considerably in his work. In 1723 Bach went to Leipzig as music director of the Thomas-schule. During his stay at Leipzig, he wrote many of his church cantatas and oratorios. Among these is his famous Christmas Oratorio. In 1749 Bach became totally blind; and in the following year, 1750, he died. Historians tell us that Bach did not seem to associate very much with other musicians and was far more interested in his family of 20 children and in composing and directing his church choirs than in becoming "famous." In addition to his almost unequaled skill as a composer, he also was an excellent organ builder, as well as an expert music copyist. Since most of his life was spent within a few miles of his birthplace, we also now know that Bach s music was not widely known throughout the world during his lifetime. In fact, many of Bach s most beautiful works were unpublished and unperformed for almost 100 years, until two later composers (Mendelssohn and Schumann) discovered the beauties of his music and began to perform them and make them known to the world. Josquin des Pres was born in France. His career in music began in 1976 when he obtained his first record deal signing his fusion band with United Artist Records. Since then, he has produced hundreds of projects, working with some of the biggest names in the recording industry: Jeff Porcaro (Toto), Bernie Taupin, Vinny Colaiuta (Sting), Steve Lukather (Toto) Billy Sheehan, Bunny Brunel etc. As a songwriter, he is one of the very few to collaborate on numerous songs with Elton John s legendary lyricist Bernie Taupin. As the owner of Track Star Studios in La Mesa, Josquin des Pres does more for his clients then just record demos or CDs. He helps mold the creative process, planning production strategy and develops the project so that it is competitive on today s music scene.

Bach is Best!

As a long time guitar picker who recently became obsessed with all things Jaco Pastorius, I felt the need to purchase a bass guitar and plumet the depths of the F clef. This streamlined volume contains 10 pieces by J.S. Bach transcribed for the bass in TAB as well as traditional notation. It's a no-frills, no filler, edition packed with 100% protein! I chose this book over the other Bach for Bass book offered at Amazon mainly because this included a CD in the bargain. The material contained in this book is such a rich and solid foundation in the construction of scales and chords, that it would be beneficial to anyone interested in building their own solid musical vocabulary. So, continue to slap and pop that bass! But if you want to turn some heads,try playing melodically. This is the book to plant musical seeds with!

Lots of fun

I'll admit that these beautiful cello suites do not sound that great when played on bass, BUT they make for very efficient and fun exercise for improving bass technique/technical efficiency; and provide myriad ideas for improvisation patterns.
